John Forrest studied at the NSW Institute of Technology Sydney (currently UTS) in the 'sandwich' program from 1976 to 1983.
During this period John worked predominantly for Thiess Contractors as a cadet engineer on varied construction sites around Sydney and a small consulting engineering firm on the Central Coast.
Prior to graduation, John was invited to become a founding director of a consulting firm in the Macarthur region with the Principal from the Central Coast firm. John subsequently established an office in Campbelltown with his wife Belinda who was pregnant with their daughter Jessica.
This firm later become Appleyard Forrest Consulting Engineers P/L (AFCE).
Despite the turbulent economic climate, AFCE grew rapidly and by 1999 had about 40 staff with offices in Bowral, Campbelltown, The Olympic Village, Norwest, Gosford and SE Asia.
In addition to a very broad range of successful projects, John was commissioned as the Principal Structural Consultant for The 2000 Olympic Games Athletes' Village (TOV), permanent housing and the innovative two (2) storey Modular Homes and Media Village for the Mirvac Lend Lease Village Consortium. The TOV site has subsequently become the the new suburb of Newington and AFCE were retained to complete the estate after the 2000 Olympics.
John resigned from AFCE in 1999 and established FORREST ENGINEERING SOLUTIONS (FES) with an office in Narellan in 2000. This office was established with his daughter Jessica who is now the Practice Manager of the Forrest Engineering Group of companies and CONSULTING ENGINEERING SOLUTIONS (CES).
Despite some quite turbulent times in its first decade, including the GFC, FES grew strongly to a maximum of 12 staff. Due to John's diverse experience and reputation, specialist divisions of FES were established to cater for an expanding client base. The function of each of these divisions and affiliated companies is defined in detail in this web site.
In response to the need to provide grass roots service to building contractors on-site, John's son James, a licensed builder and carpentry tradesman, joined the firm in 2010 initially as an Engineering Inspector. James is currently developing the building and construction areas of the practice.
John's youngest daughter Bethany is a naturally gifted nurse and studying to become a specialist Registered Nurse.
As much as the engineering achievements of John's teams, John highly values the dedication of his staff and seeing them reach their potential by stretching their abilities.
John has been fortunate to have a succession of talented and dedicated people around him with many of them assisting him for extended periods.
Belinda and John value all the efforts of their staff and are particularly looking forward to their next 'careers' as 'Ma and Pa' grandparents.
However, John has no intention of 'retiring' into this new career. With our current highly talented staff, John will be developing new initiatives to continue to develop our corporate potential. One (1) initiative is the new CUPOLEX SDS residential slab system which is well underway and several others are in progress.
With Jessica and her husband, soon to have their first child, the 'circle', from 1983, is now 'complete'. James and his wife, are also expecting their first child in 2012. At this stage, Bethany is more than happy being an expectant Aunty.
With the continued dedication of our staff, Belinda and John are confident that our team will continue to provided professional assistance to our clients for many years.
And that, is, 'our story'.
